Windsor Whip Works Art Gallery
For the last thirty years, I have headed an advertising and marketing agency as president and creative director. I remained a frustrated fine artist, who one day was going to do a great painting for posterity; who after all was going to remember the last layout I created for an ad. The idea of opening an art gallery had great appeal. I could exhibit my own paintings as well as other artists. More importantly, I could create a meeting place to discuss art, exchange ideas, and be surrounded by other creative minds.
One day as my wife and I drove down Main Street past a boarded up old building that had seen better days, we noticed a for sale sign. Over the many years, we had watched this building situated right at the gateway corner to Windsor, deteriorate into an eye sore. The price was cheap -- we would fix it up and it would become my art gallery. Well, it did not turn out to be so inexpensive. After five years and lots of sweat, grief and money, we finally opened in October 2005.
In honor of the 50 years our building operated as the Windsor Whip Works, one of the last factories manufacturing whips in Windsor, we renamed the building, Windsor Whip Works Art Gallery.
There are two floors dedicated to the art gallery, with the basement gallery featuring Ceramics, woodcarving, glass blowing, jewelry, etc. In addition, a schedule of workshops, seminars, and life classes will become a regular feature of Windsor Whip Works.
Windsor Whip Works Art Gallery is co-directed by my wife and me. We are dedicated to showing work done by the very best and talented local, national and international artist, and sculptures, working in all media, expressing their individual approach to contemporary art, be it photorealism, surrealism, impressionism, expressionism or abstract.
Welcome to Windsor Whip Works.
