Philip Catania
Art educator and painter
Philip Catania; Art educator, painter and farmer. A graduate from the School of Art and design in New York City, Pratt Institute where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and the College of New Rochelle where he received a Masters of Arts Degree.
Catania’s collection of paintings and prints can be organized into three categories: fantasy, figures, and flowers. His Human forms frequently appear in his surrealistic fantasies, where his intention is to produce thought provoking detail abstract images of a metaphysical nature. Often the images are his visualizations of the spiritualization of God’s hand in nature. Art is therapy for mind and soul, providing insights into self-realization and self-confidence.
Catania taught painting and drawing to a varied student population, which included adults, middle school, and emotional challenged adults for approximately thirty two years. When Catania moved his family to a small farm in the 80’s, he added farming to his list of experiences. Farming wasn’t easy, but Catania has enjoyed the journey, the farm with its closeness to nature has provides him with a lot of materials to think about and internalized. These thoughts have been transferred to many of Catania’s drawings and paintings.
